@gideon George: The folders within the folders should be in /plugins/.
Take adman, the structure should be:
/plugins/adman/adman.php
and NOT
/plugins/adman/adman/adman.php.
My folders meet the correct format, and still, nada. Help?
Fwiw, I’ve done this many times before. I don’t know what the problem is this go round.

Is it possible to find out what plugin you’re trying to install please?
One of it is the adman. thanks for your support
I’ve tried several different ones, all of which are showing up properly in the appropriate folder.

Strangely, I was able to upload and activate a contact form yesterday. Hmmm.
I can only see /plugins/adman/adman and not /plugins/adman/adman.php.
In my own there is not .php
/plugins/adman/adman <– thats wrong
Thats a nested folder.
You want this:
/plugins/adman/
then your plugin files.
@gideon George: The same sort of rule generally applies to the rest of your plugins as well. Although, if the plugin comes with a readme.txt it’s usually worth reading them as they generally include specific instructions on how to install the plugin.
@bloggrrl: Just taking ‘bookmarkify’ (since one or two others might not be compatible/tested with 2.5) it says that the structure should be (as for adman) /plugins/bookmarkify/bookmarkify.php Is it possible to confirm that this is the case for you please?
This is what I have:
/littlepinkflower.com/wp-content/plugins/bookmarkify/
Isn’t this how it is supposed to be?
Okay, I see that I double-nested with commentluv. Fixed that… Still don’t know about some of this other stuff…
If it’s littlepinkflower.com/wp-content/plugins/bookmarkify/FILE NAME (like bookmarkify.php) then yes, that should be it (according to the installation instructions)
Okay, when I open the whole thing up, that’s what I get:
/littlepinkflower.com/wp-content/plugins/bookmarkify/bookmarkify/
Do I just go into the panel and add the .php?
(Running to go look at readme file…)
It should be this littlepinkflower.com/wp-content/plugins/bookmarkify/ and in that folder you should have a lot of files including the file bookmarkify.php.
Sorry about the confusion!
Ok, here’s what I see in the installation instructions–
1. Upload the contents ‘bookmarkify.zip’ to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/bookmarkify/’ directory
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
I did the first one, it’s the second that’s the problem. This is mystifying. Was I supposed to have created a directory for it?
Well, I tried creating the bookmarkify directory and that didn’t work either. Ack.
