• My website has been running great up until a few days ago. It seems when publishing, updating, moving to trash, or restoring from the trash takes a really long time, and generally times out or gives me an error “Error: Unable to move to trash.”

My site has about 8k posts running the latest version 3.8.1. I’ve disabled all plugins and reverted back to the 2013 theme and still am getting the timeout/error.

I only recently updated to 3.8.1 while trying to troubleshoot the time out. No other changes besides post creation have been made to the site in several months.

Any other function of the site works fine such as enabling/disabling plugins, changing themes, viewing settings of WP or various plugins. Only when managing information from the database such as posts/pages seem to time out.

I’m not sure where to look into next. Should I just try a new install and migrate content over or is there something else I can try before going that far?

    Thanks in advance.

    Some more info —

    I always receive this error:
Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case.

If I save a Draft, it works fine. If I move the draft to trash, it works fine. But, if it’s published or attempts to be published, it hangs up and errors out. I’ve tried increasing the autosave interval but nothing happens.

Again, all plugins have been disabled and reverted back to 2013 and still receive this issue. All operations within the dashboard and front end of the site perform very quickly, but anything relating to publishing doesn’t work properly.
