• I have seen another recent post about this issue that was closed by the Moderator to avoid spam (??!). But, seriously WP Folks, this is a major issue we need to talk about.

Your site is recommending BlueHost yet it is one of the few hosting providers that limit the CPU time which it gives to script-based code management systems like WordPress.

I am not being paid by anyone except the clients I design websites for. So, there’s no spammy links in this post.

But, honestly, you need to stop sending people to BlueHost. Their throttling of my pretty basic sites resulted in pages taking 6 to 10 seconds to show up. That slowness will lose websites readers and their owners business.

I truly don’t understand why BlueHost gets your recommendation.

  • I’ve been with Bluehost for a month now and have not ran into any throttling issue. The site is not live yet, but the pages load very quickly. Do you have any specific examples?

It also depends on what you plan you have with them as they all don’t have the same features. Shared plans would be far more restricted when it comes to memory and cpu limits.

Yes, it could be the plan. I had a shared plan like those highlighted in the links from WordPress to BlueHost. If BlueHost does have unthrottled plans suitable for script-based sites, then that class of hosting should be what WordPress points to. At least there should be some clue somewhere what people should buy.

The throttling was consistent, although when I was logged in to BlueHost their system would not show throttling on the 24-hour chart. When I logged out of the hosting administration, the graphs would record throttling again. See http://www.ozdachs.biz/nl/images/throttling-all.jpg for a graph of what I normally saw.

My slowest site was my own blog which was based on the free Atahualpa theme. I do not have all the bells and whistles turned on, and when I moved hosting to another provider the speed improved a lot. The site is http://www.san-francisco-website-design.com… although I hesitate to post the URL because I don’t want to tempt the spam police. (Spam police –> feel free to delete the URL if you think I’m trying something nefarious. I really just want to understand how BlueHost is recommended by this .org.)

I have a client who is running into this same issue with Bluehost. She is a fashion blogger with about 2k visits a day and a HUGE amount of photos on her sites. I’d like to think upgrading her plan would solve the issue, but she’s just going to outgrow the next level in a few months anyway. If not Bluehost, who would be a better host?

Sorry we’re going to have to close this thread because it’s turning into a *which host is best* thread that’s going to attract a lot of spam.

If you need support with Bluehost you’ll need to talk to them directly. WordPress.org forums are here to support the themes, plugins and the core application that are distributed on WordPress.org.
