• I’m having a really weird problem, under Appearance / Menus, I can’t click on the menu items and get the dropdown section where you can usually edit “Navigation Label” and click the “Remove” button. The arrow that is usually there is gone..

Just so you know, I have already spent the entire day trying to figure this out, including searching on this forum.

    This is what I’ve tried:

    Deactivating all plugins
    Deleting All Plugins
    Deleting Wp-includes & WP-admin
Deleting my Theme and Switching to Twenty Fourteen

Nothing worked, can someone point me in the right direction here? What could be the reason??

    Image illustrating the problem

    The website

    Thank you!

    David

  • The css for that page is even acting up – it does look to be a conflict with a plugin or theme. I believe you did deactivate but sometimes some bigger themes/plugins are painful like this-

Do you have WP_DEBUG = true? in config.php to reveal an issue, a bad function?
Do you have web inspector? do you see any resources failing to load or js console spitting out an error?

    Appreciate you chiming in!

Mm, the CSS is acting up how? The CSS looks fine here, via FireFox, Opera, and Safari.. What do you mean?

I’ve tried with all plugins deleted, it made no difference at all.

I just set WP_DEBUG to true, but nothing is popping up.

I just ran WebInspector, NO issues detected, it’s clean..

Damn I wish I just had some clue! πŸ™

re: your admin css is messed, this is how that page should look: http://cl.ly/image/201j3G2u2F3P notice the padding and white background, etc. that symptom is proof something’s corrupt or interfering with something in wp-admin.

might want to try one last time deactivating all plugins, reverting theme to original, and if you still down’t have a working Menus interface, installing clean copies of /wp-admin/ and /wp-includes/

I’ve already done that. How is it even possible to delete wp-admin, reup a fresh version, and not see any changes?

I’ve removed all CSS, all plugins, reupped wp-admin, disabled my theme and enabled twenty fourteen, and not once change occurs. Is it even supposed to be possible?

I’ve spoken with the theme provider (Headway) they say it has nothing to do with them, it’s WordPress.

Please, if anyone have a clue what could be going on, chime in! πŸ™

    Would really appreciate it!

What other parts of WP has an effect on the WP Menus panel than WP-Admin? Could I delete something else and re-up it?

Hm okay, how about your browser? Have you tried a different one?

    Thread Starter David-T

    (@david-t-1)

Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome – It’s all the same.

Also, I have several WP installations on my Hostgator server, no problems there.

This site is on a Danish host, so I’m thinking it ‘could’ be the host, but then again, how could this happen, when I haven’t touched any of the WP files? I’ve only worked on my theme, which is now deactivated along with all plugins which I have deleted.

Twenty Fourteen is the only thing activated on my site now, all custom css, jquery, plugins, are removed.

WP-includes + WP-admin have been reupped from fresh WP 3.81 several times now.

Is this seriously a unique problem only I have experienced? Nobody have any clue what could be wrong?

Which other files in WP could influence the WP-Menus?

This is so frustrating, I have no clue what to do πŸ™

All there is on the site is a clean Twenty Fourteen, everything else is deleted, and the problem is the exact same, it made no difference.

Can someone spot anything unusual from just looking at this empty site now?

    http://www.spul.dk

All – I’ve been pulling my hair out with the same issue. I’m seeing the exact same issue HOWEVER, on any of my Mac machines the dropdown arrows exist and I’m able to edit. Any of my windows machines do not show the dropdown arrows.

I’ve tried everything and cannot figure out what’s causing this…

@david-t: On some hosting environments, aggressive settings for the “mod_pagespeed” addon can break the javascript code and cause scripts to not be able to function. This can cause many problems, such as widgets not working, menus not being draggable, the customizer not working, or the media screens not being available.

To fix the issue, you will need to disable mod_pagespeed, or adjust its settings to not take effect in the wp-admin directories. You may need to ask your hosting service for help on how to do this.

    (@david-t-1)

bmsith25, are you from Denmark too? We are a couple of guys who have problems with DanDomain, we both have the exact same issue, and the host provider claim that they can’t do anything about it.

esmi, thank you, I will tell them that, however the host support are incredibly unprofessional, and it appears that they barely know their way around WordPress themselves.

they barely know their way around WordPress themselves.

This has nothing to do with WordPress itself. It’s to do with the server’s configuration.

    Thread Starter David-T

    (@david-t-1)

I know that, what I meant was “they barely know to do their job”, not that my problem is WordPress related, I know it isn’t, and I’ve clearly told them that, but they don’t believe me and tell me it isn’t a server issue.

Then just ask them to disable mod_pagespeed on your server.

    Thread Starter David-T

    (@david-t-1)

I did, but I don’t think this guy knows what he’s doing, nothing he has written to be thus far indicates that he’s knowledgeable enough fix this issue.

But I appreciate you chiming in esmi, it helps me a lot to hear you reaffirm that this is a server issue, I’m going to take this up with them when I talk to the administration.
