Editing My Site's Search Functionality

    I had a consultant create the company website that I manage. They can’t tell me where I can edit the site’s search function.

    The issue is that the search feature returns plenty of results but of which 90% plus have nothing to do with the searcher’s query. Surely there is a way to edit this functionality but I have yet been able to find out where. Any ideas?
