    Hi guys

    I have just been notified of a failed transaction via PayPal. I am using eShop on a bespoke theme and this is the first transaction to have been processed.

    I have followed your help files to check all the profile settings in the new business account and also double checked that the email address for PayPal payments in the payment gateways section of the settings is the same as the paypal account email address.

    I can’t see that anything is missing/wrong yet I am baffled to know why the transaction has failed.

    I wonder if anyone could shed some light on if I am missing anything?

    Sorry about that. The forums were targeted by a spammer earlier today that resulted in one of the db tables crashing. This has been fixed now but we lost all posts after 21/02.

    As to your failed transaction issue, all we can say is that PayPal cannot contact eShop due to a misconfiguration in your settings — either within your gateway account or within eShop. Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

    Have you tried installing the eShop Magic transaction logger plugin?

    Hi Esmi, sorry to hear about the forum.

    Unfortunately as it is a live site, the client may not be happy to change the theme at this time of day for testing but I may get away with it later on in the evening.

    The only settings I can see in eshop for the PayPal gateway is main account email address, am I missing something?

    In the meantime, I have installed the transaction logger plugin and then tried to order a product, the site gives the impression that the sale has been complete but after I log back in to the dashboard, the order has failed. I don’t quite understand the log, could you please let me know what I am looking for? Or do you want me to paste the log here?

    Not at eShop’s end, no but you do need to ensure that the PayPal account is set up correctly at PayPal’s end.

    Please do paste the log file here but do remove any sensitive information (like email addresses) first.

    It is in failed.

    What did the email from PayPal say?

    I got the usual payment confirmation email and site admin got the following:

    An instant payment notification was received
    from **email address**
    The transaction was not completed successfully. eShop could not validate the order. Please double check all settings in eShop and at paypal to confirm they are both correct.The transaction was not completed successfully at Paypal. The pending reason for this is

    Hmm… this sounds like something outside of eShop. Was the payment successfully processed at PayPal’s end?

    The £3.00 has gone out of my paypal in the form of an e-cheque (probably because it was from account and not from debit card) yes but the recipient hasn’t yet received anything (as echeque takes 3-5 days).

    Using an echeque probably wasn’t a good idea. Can you not set up a 1 penny product for testing?

    Hi Esmi,
    Found the problem, the email address for the Paypal account had never been confirmed using the link in the email, did that, paid a penny and it cleared.
