• Hello,

I am currently working on a website using WordPress 3.5.2. I want to upgrade it to the most recent version (3.8.1) but I have been told it will break the functionality of the website if I do.

So I have created a new WordPress site that is upgraded to the newest version and I imported the .xml file from the old version (3.5.2) onto the new “test” site (3.8.1) as well as the all the files.

Now the site formatting in wrong and even the theme of the site did not transfer over.

Is there anyway I can upgrade to the newest version without breaking functionality and formatting of the current site?

    Thank you for the help.

  • What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

The theme is a custom one i believe that was made for the website. I can provide you with more information if you could direct me to what files you would like to view.

I’m sorry but as you are using a custom theme, there is very little we can do to help as we have no real idea how this theme was constructed. The wordpress.org support forums are only meant for the core application, themes and plugins that are distributed on wordpress.org. All I can suggest is that you consider hiring someone to check the theme out for you.

I am somewhat new to WordPress and I am not 100% sure it is a custom theme. Is there a way for me to check?

Is there a way you can contact the person who built the site for you? They should be able to tell you.
