When an image is attached as a Featured Image for a post or a page, the image doesn’t show up as being uploaded to that post or page in the Media Library “Uploaded to” column.

Hopefully there is a way to also show if an image is being used on a post or page as a featured image.

    Thank-you!

Thanks for your interest in the plugin and for your question.

The logic for assigning Media Library items to “parent” posts/pages is a function of WordPress itself, and MLA plays no part in the process. As you’ve noticed, WordPress does not “attach” an image to the post/page when it is set as the Featured Image.

Beginning with version 3.5 there has been an explicit move away from the parent-attachment notion, e.g., the replacement of “Attached To” by “Uploaded to” and the introduction of the ids parameter for [gallery] to list items in the gallery rather than rely on the implicit parent-attachment association. In fact, “attachment” is becoming an endangered term. If maintaining the parent-attachment assignment is useful for your application, MLA can help in a couple of ways.

First, the “Featured in” column of the Media/Assistant submenu table gives an accurate list of which posts/pages (can be more than one) for which the item is set as the Featured Image. If you don’t see the column, pull down the “Screen Options” in the upper-right corner of the screen and check the box to the left of “Featured in”. If the column contains “Disabled”, go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab, set the dropdown to “Enabled”, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save Changes”.

Second, you can use the quick edit or bulk edit areas to assign a parent ID to one or more items. The Parent ID is given in parentheses before the title of each post/page in the Featured in column. You can click the Quick Edit rollover action for the item, enter the Parent ID in the Quick Edit area and click “Update”. If you want to change several items, check the box to the left of the thumbnail image(s), select “Edit” from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown at the top/Bottom of the table and click “Apply”. The Bulk Edit area will open up; enter the Parent ID and click “Update” to change all of the items at once.

You can check you work by clicking on the “(parent:xxxx)” link in the ID/Parent column or the post/page Title in the Featured in column.

I hope that give you what you need to manage parent-attachment relationships for your Featured Images. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions. Thanks again for your interest in the plugin.

Thank-you that is a very complete answer.

Would it be possible to add the column “Featured in” on the Media Library Assistant page to the Media Library? (with the option to display it or not)

This would allow someone (my client) be able to see everything on one page, and in the Media Library without having to go to further off pages.

Thanks for the good words and for your follow-up suggestion. When I created MLA I made the decision to create a separate Media/Assistant submenu because many of the enhanced features could not be added to the standard Media/Library submenu. I also decided to leave the standard submenu alone to avoid confusion. If you think there’s something in the standard submenu I should add to the Media/Assistant submenu, let me know.

Some users don’t like having two similar submenus. You can make the Media/Assistant submenu the default choice, and you can optionally remove the standard screen from the Media menu altogether. There are options on the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab for those changes if you want them.

I will keep your suggestion in mind for a future version, but I am reluctant to start modifying the standard submenu in any way.

Thanks for your interest in the plugin and for your understanding.
