Freezes trying to add an event in the calendar as admin

Installed ver 1.0.4, using Twenty Eleven theme ver 1.7 and WordPress 3.8.1
Changed some options, changed/added categories, created a Calendar page and added [calendar]. Went to page, calendar appeared…but could not add an event clicking a date in the calendar…Add event form freezes.
Also, I want to remove the ‘Ajax Event Calendar successfully installed event’! Why would a customer to my website want to know when some component was installed?
Ok, I understand advertising and recognition, but if the author or anyone else wants publicity…I can just set up a ‘Credits’ page where those who want publicity can be listed and then our members/customers can view if they wish.
If there are any other frustrated volunteers out there who have found an Events calendar plugin that works with Twenty Eleven 1.7 and WordPress 3.8.1….please let me know.
