Long story short. Tried to upgrade to latest version. Did not work - had header only and no content. So deleted entire blog directory and uploaded backup. Blog came up perfectly (not upgraded... just back to what it used to be)... BUT... I try to log in as admin with my password and it says it is incorrect! So I saw the part about "email me my password." My email does not work! I had this initially set up for me, so I don't know what email could possibly be in there - I tried my own email and it didn't recognize it. Even the initial password the blog had does not work.
I can get into my cpanel of course and view all the files. Is there a file in my blog directory I can look at that will tell me the user name or password? I am locked out of my own blog! Thanks!!!
I assume you are really lost. you will have to manually built the blog again. you should read the upgrade guide on wordpress.org before doing an upgrade.

samboll, IT WORKED!!! Thank you!!!!!
samboll,
thanks for that useful tutorial on how to change the password via phpMyAdmin :) brilliant ;-)
unfortunately it didn't work for me :-(
Just upgraded to 2.6 (stuuuuupidly forgot to deactivate plugins beforehand) - and though DB upgrade went fine and site is still up - I can't log into the admin panel.
(reset password first via WP - nothing, then changed it again via phpMyAdmin - nothing... deleted all files (apart from wp-config and content folder) - and re-uploaded - nothing... took all plugins offline, tried again, nothing....)
After searching here - and reading all posts I still cannot solve my problem... any other ideas anyone? please..... :'(
update:
thanks to more searching around and reading up - I found my solution - just to post it here in case it helps someone else out:
I tried resetting my password in phpMyAdmin - still no luck. Apparently if you log out - which is the same as clearing the cookie - your login will work fine again.
I simply deleted my cookie - and everything is working fine :-)
