All slides showing at the same time when video is added to slideshow

Why is it when I add a video to any of the slides suddenly all the other slides become visible at the same time?
The only work around I can find is to give all the slides a uniform background, which doesn’t work on my current design as my current slide background is an image that spans the whole width of the browser window.
