This is absolutely incredible…i acidently followed some very bad advice when my server mail service wasnt working. i chose the forgot password in the admin logon. Of course the bloody email never arrives and now im stuffed.

I cannot get phpmyadmin to sort it out as no database comes up in phpmyadmin,

the ftp method doesnt work…it refuses to reset the password to “password”

i used the emergency script and the bloody program is trying to tell me my admin username is incorrect (absolute [quack] its wrong!!!!)

What am i to do? I have full file access to the entire instillation, is there another way to can sort this out???

I think the security plugin “Wordfence” is screwing all this up and stopping me from getting back in

if you think wordfence is causing this, posting in the wordfence forum might get you the help you need http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/wordfence

    End result,
i had to manually delete all security plugin files from WordPress directory.

Once that was done, i was able to log back in with original admin username and password.

Mental note for those who have mail functionality issues…Do not, DO NOT choose the <Administrator username > “lost your password” option for testing to see if mail function is working!!!!

If the email never arrives you will lose all access to your WordPress dashboard if done from the admin account (which is very likely considering you will most likely be working from the dashboard at the time)
