I’m not sure if I’m overlooking a setting, but when I click on an image in my gallery, it’s not showing the description. I have an album setup (displaying the listed galleries) and then when I go into a gallery and click on an image, it doesn’t show the description.

Does this only work on gallery pages (as compared to coming from an album page)?

    Example

  • Hi Steph, I never had such a problem with albums. Have you tried to use another gallery effect in the options panel such as lightbox or shutterset (both require to install the relevant plugins though – slimbox or shutter reloaded)?

P.S.: Your images are very huge. I would recommend to use your image editing software and make them smaller before uploading them to the gallery to reduce the loading time. I am on DSL10000 and it took really long to load a single image.

I’m still having trouble with this. I have it setup the same way as the example [link] (created a new page for the gallery, put in the [gallery=id], gallery page link deactivated) but no matter what I do, the description does not appear. I can see the image description when I hover over the thumbnail, but when I click on it (using the thickbox effect) the description is MIA.

    Hi,
what happens if you deactivate that fancy tool tip thing, and what have you told ngg gallery to show gallery->options->show picture description?

Your gallery there are no title tags for the link and empty alt and title tags for the thumbs so thickbox cant find anything to put.

    best regards bee

I have this same problem. It is definitely the title tag in the link. If I am in Visual editing mode in the WordPress post editor, it strips any title tag out of links when it loads the post for display. So, when you first add the image to a post and save it, it will display fine. But, if you go back to edit it (in Visual editing mode) then save the post again, you will lose the title tag.

The only workaround I can see is to make sure the post editor is in HTML mode when your post is loaded for editing.

    All the images have descriptions.

Well this doesn’t make much sense, why would my fancytooltips plugin be affecting the display of the description text in the thickbox?

Is there any way to get these two working together? It’s just a small javascript/css thing.

    Hi,
if you are reluctant to do this for testing for a few seconds how will you ever know?
Please have a look at the source code your gallerypage delivers to the browser regarding the linked thumbnails and compare it with Alexs example page what source code that one delivers then you could see some empty title and alt tags that shouldn’t be.

As can be seen here, the images have a description set. When you hover over the thumbnail, that is what it displayed in the tooltip.

As I mentioned in my previous post, the fancytooltip plugin seems to be conflicting with displaying the image descriptions when viewing the image in thickbox. When the plugin is disabled, the description is shown. When enabled, it is not.

Is there any way to make these two plugins coexist happily? The fancytooltips plugin can be downloaded here.

    Hi,
the problem is not that you didnt’t set the descriptions that was not the thing i meant but they are missing in the html code delivered to the browser as title tags not for the thumb but the link to full image as they are needed by thickbox to display them. They seem to be taken by fancytooltips changed to an e.g. <a fancytooltip="My workstation." leaving no title tag there and no alt tag for the thumb image.

The page you linked is accessible but the download link therein is not at least at the moment. But here is a interesting link regarding the same happening with lightbox overlay and with the solution to edit lightbox so i suggest thickbox should be edited or patched lightbox tried. There’s no chance with css.

Ahhh, I guess that sorta makes sense (I don’t know any js). No idea how I would edit the thickbox stuff. Hell, I had originally edited the thickbox-pack.js to make the Full Size link bold, and it worked, but when I went to take out the target=”_blank” I added, the whole thing broke. Anytime I try to have it like I did before, nada.

I downloaded Lightbox from that site, though no idea how to get it working with nextgen. X( It shows up in the Effects section, but when I click on an image, it just loads the image itself, no lightbox.

w00t, got it working. Had to download lightbox-2 from the WordPress extend, changed all the ‘title’ to ‘fancytooltip’ and everything is working nicely. Lightbox itself is prettier than the thickbox one. Only bummer is that there doesn’t seem to be a “full size” link. :\

    Thanks for the help. 😀

Blah…had to ditch the Lightbox plugin, it doesn’t resize images to fit the browser = fail.

No instructions in there regarding fixing it for thickbox, and nothing I’ve tried has worked. >_<
