locating themes directory when using subfolder for site

    Hi, I transferred my DW site and am going to recreate it in WordPress, using a subfolder, as in http://www.shirleyannparker.com/new-website — This is so I don’t disrupt the existing website while I build the new one. I need to locate the wp-content/themes directory so I can create a child theme from Bouquet. But all I’m getting is a blank white page when I type http://www.shirleyannparker.com/new-website/wp-content/themes.

    There is no way to create a child theme from the Dashboard. I’m using 3.8.1 but it doesn’t seem user friendly at all. (This is perturbing because there are other customizations I’ll need to make.) Does anyone know the correct path I should be using to locate the themes directory?

    To do that, I’d suggest you use FTP. It is how we get our files from our computer to the web hosting server (thus viewable on the web).

    I see that you’re on Dreamhost. You can read a tutorial on how to access and upload your files via FTP client FileZilla on Dreamhost here.

    It’s easier than it looks, by the way. And I believe Dreamhost live chat team would help you setting up your FTP client, too, if you ask them ;).

    Also, if all you want to do is customizing style.css (without involving the PHP parts), then another easier option is to install WordPress’s official Jetpack plugin. This gives you something similar to a child-theme’s CSS customization in Appearance –> Edit CSS.

    You will have to go in thru FTP or your hosts file manager, not a web browser. But you do have the right path.

    Thank you both for the replies! Much appreciated. I’ve installed Jetpack and am considering that approach first.

    In addition to changing the colors in the header, I want to remove the Leave a Comment, Leave a Reply, etc. from all my Pages. I only want Comments and Replies on the Blog Posts (Home) page. I also want to remove the Home, About Me, My Books mini-headings from the Pages themselves. I only need those in the Navigation tabs under the header image. On a different WordPress product, I was able to do all this very easily but Bouquet seems to have very few options.

    Am I stuck having to copy and paste the Bouquet theme code into notepad and then using FTP to upload it?

    Using Jetpack’s css module will allow some of the mods you want to make.

    For removing the leave a comment from pages:
    Go into pages > All Pages
    Select the checkbox next to title to select all the pages
    In the bulk actions dropdown choose edit then click apply
    On the next page chose Do Not Allow in the comments dropdown
