Comments for posts are turned on within the Discussions section of the admin panel, as well as within the Theme Options though when creating a new post, comments are not automatically enabled.
As an author, comments are very important to the posts and this has been something I had hoped would fix itself after a few updates. I have now manually enabled comments on all posts, but this will not be sustainable as my client does create a lot of posts.
