I’ve circled back after months of waiting to see if NG2 will be a viable gallery plugin for clients moving forward.

I’ve installed the current version on my local dev site. The interface works, which is an improvement over previous experience.

However, the problem is: When I insert a gallery into a page the only thing that will display is the preview image. No gallery appears.

If I look at what was inserted in the Text/Code View tab in the editor I see this:
    <img class="ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem" alt="" src="http://dev.murmerair.com:8888/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id--427" />

I’ve fiddled with various settings, but the gallery will simply not display. The basic steps I took were: create gallery, add images, save, go to page, click NexGen icon, select gallery to display.

Is there some new process to do this? I’m finding the plugin less intuitive than before and am discouraged regarding whether it is useful for clients any longer.

  • Same issue here. Nextgen Pro.
Only get a preview image to a gallery. Nothing else.
WP 3.8.1, last versions nextgen & nextgen pro.
If I add the shortcode (with the template), I get a gallery but it’s not the bells and whistles I bought the pro version for…

    Exactly same issue here!
    They say:
    Compatible up to: 3.7.1
so the issue it could be the wp version i guess.
now the question is, will they update it?
Actually they know that the new 2.0x release doesn’t work properly: http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/open-letter-to-the-nextgen-community-from-erick-danzer/
but i’m wondering if it could be better move to another gallery plugin.

@squidz – Issues with the “Preview” image being displayed are often found in conflicts with other plugins … although there are rare cases where a theme may also be creating the conflict (usually by implementing functionality better suited for a plugin).

Generally speaking, a local environment should work fine … all I can suggest as is would be to test if this continues with a default WordPress Twenty series theme active and only NextGEN Gallery active.

You might also consider changing your MAMP install to use port 80 versus the default port 8888.

    Thanks!

yes, the port seemed to be the issue for me. i’ve moved my web site from local to a web devel area and it seems to work properly.
    Thanks!
