   I would like to display the entire post for the recent article and excerpts of the previous posts below it after a user clicks a category. I tried several times with archive.php to use multiple loops but so far nothing.

   Any ideas?

   If you click each of the categories it displays the most recent post and excerpts of past posts. This site does exactly what I want http://quommunication.com/demo/news/category/entertainment/

   Reading: Category_Templates - use those instead of archive.php

   And the search should help you:
