changing URL with htacess 301 stll gets 404

I am wanting to change the URL of a page on a site I created for friend. The page in question is (example): https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular

I like to change it to: https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular (note the ‘-‘ has been removed in the new URL).

In the htaccess I write:
RewriteEngine on
Redirect 301 /jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular.html https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular.html

I have a cache plugin installed and purge this as soon as I made the changes figuring it might hold on to old stuff.

So far so good?

Well if I now enter the new URL, it does not work. I get a 404. Any tips as to what I do wrong?

Also if I put in the URL https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular I get a 404 and if I do https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular/ or https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular/ I do not. Does this have anything to do with it?

Two things I see are that you are not using “$” and “RedirectMatch”:
```
RewriteEngine on
RedirectMatch 301 ^/oldpage$ https://mysite.com/newpage/
```

I am just back at the machine, and for clarity. My page is a sub page. should I than write:

RewriteEngine on
RedirectMatch 301 ^/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular$ https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular.html

Or

RewriteEngine on
RedirectMatch 301 ^/kontakt-formular$ https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular.html

The goal is to catch and redirect any incoming traffic looking for the old page, but there is nothing wrong with adding both of those if you do not know what people have bookmarked or the search engines have indexed. Personally, I use Wordfence Security to discover 404s (specific links) in need of redirection.

Sorry for the delay a thousand things happened in my life so this had to wait.

It still does not work as wished for.

In my .htacces file I enter:

# BEGIN redirect to prevent 404 after change of URL
RewriteEngine on
RedirectMatch 301 ^/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular$ https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontaktformular.html
# END redirect to prevent 404 after change of URL

If I put in my browser:
https://domain.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular/

I get a 404 page.

If I put in my browser
https://spiel-der-wandlung.eu/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular (no ‘/’ at the end)
I jumps to the new page.

I suspect that if folk made a bookmark of the page before changing the URL, it has the / at the end. so I suspect this is so for other people and bots as well. Leading to a 404.

What is going on here? Or what do I do wrong?

Put it in both ways and I believe you will solve the problem:

RedirectMatch 301 ^/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular$ https~~~
RedirectMatch 301 ^/jetzt-informationen-anfordern/kontakt-formular/$ https~~~
```
