Display Post from Gallery Category Differently on Index Page

I am creating a blog that will include a ‘gallery’ category. I am going to make use of the excellent new gallery feature in 2.5, however when a page from the gallery section appears on the blogs home/index page I want it to only show the first photo in the gallery and a small piece of text about the gallery. Then when the visitor clicks on the title/image it takes them to a page with just the gallery thumbnail pictures.

Matthew Mullenweg’s blog does a very similar thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
