• I just want to move my old blog postinhgs to my new 2.5.1 blog. The new blog is at the root level http://www.ross-art.com and the old blog is ross-art.com/blog/

I just want to move the postings and comments, nothing else to the new blog. Is there a folder in which they reside that I can move (I don’t know which folder the commenta are in)? that wold seem to be simple, but simplicity is not always the rule….

    Thanks for any help

  • Hello,

Is your old blog WordPress as well?

If so you can export the comments and postings. The Export feature is located in the Manage tab I think.

the comments are not in any folder, they are stored inside the database.
As far as I know, there is no way to do that without some DB management.
and that, for someone who does not know how, is risky.
FUrther more, as far as my understanding goes, if the post on your new blog and the ones in the old do not have the same ID (which is VERY unlikely they would) the task is not so easy.

read on more types of DB plugins here :

    http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/wordpress-plugins-to-help-you-administer-your-blog/

(you will find both DB maintainance AND migration plugins in that excelent page)

if you want only permalink migration :

    http://www.deanlee.cn/wordpress/permalinks-migration-plugin/

    hope that would help

thanks to both of you for your replies.

I am using 2.5.1 as my new blog and wp 1.X for the old.

I don’t have a lot of comments and posts from my old blog so migrating may not be worth it. I tried the export in the old blog but I kept getting an error message. Could not export.

I will review the lorelle info, there’s a lot there.

    Thanks again.
