High Memory Usage (16megs +) (19 posts)

Since upgrading to WordPress 2.5.1 (via Cpanel) I've had major memory issues. My site keeps returning 500 Internal Server errors. My hosting provider tells me that my site is using more than 16megs a time for the index and other pages. I can't think why! I've checked all my plugins and still no luck. I was running a static page, but have gone back to showing the recent posts again... I'm not sure why it would suddenly run up so much memory.. here is a snapshot of my resource file...

Can you temporarily use the default theme and disable all plugins? See if that makes a difference?

If so, you know it's the theme or a plugin.

If not, sounds like a reinstall

That is the default theme, i just changed the background and header. I'm seeing lots of reports about 500 errors from people since upgrading to 2.5.1 , so why isn't the development team looking at the code?

so why isn't the development team looking at the code?

who said they werent? The dev team looks at everything or there wouldn't be releases that have large changes incorporated into them.

so my isp just said everything is ok again. what the hell?

i didn't accuse the dev team of anything, forgive me.... oh whooami!

Personally, I think if your host is telling you you are using too much memory limit. Most likely they are overselling their plans (DH always does that). They cramp like 100 or even 1000 over sites into a server and promising space and bandwidth limit that you can never reach without going over the CPU load

My sites have started returning server errors again. Twice today I came accross "database not available or offline" style errors. My ISP ResellerZoom are telling me that my scripts are consuming 16megs of memory, which is hard to believe. Looking at the logs below, you'll see that even the robots.txt file is consuming 16megs, and at the time of writing this email that file didn't even exist. So the simple request for that file is consuming tonnnnnnnes of memory..

In all honesty, I only appear to be experiencing this since upgrading to the latest version of Wordpress. So unless anyone else can tell me different, i'm assuming this is either wordpress , or that my ISP has a buggered configuration, which i'll never be able to prove!!!!!!!!

Just as I thought.. After speaking with Dylan at Zoom, it is very clear that at closer inspection of the log file in my last post you'll notice all excessive memory usage are being generated by the index.php file associated with wordpress. why is it doing this?

Incidently, this only appears to happen with the static page option.. to date!

This only appears to be effecting wordpress 2.5.1 . I upgrade my other site to 2.5.1 today and all the same memory issues are now effecting that site.

My provider wants me to upgrade my package, which means 4 times as much each month just so I can run WordPress. Surely others must be having this exact same issue.....

    Lee,

Im having excactly the same problem and my host is ResellerZOOM!!

They tryed to move me to their VPS division 40usd/month but it was worse than mai failover plan. Very very slow and they accused my website of causing high cpu.

Please let me know any information, tip or solution you find out.

    thanks

    1. Switch hosting providers. Immediately. There's too many hosts out there to put up with ones who don't know how to configure their stuff properly and who don't support commonplace and popular software packages. If your host is not giving you the support you require from them, then why put up with it? Switch to a host that will help you instead of giving you grief.

    2. If CPU is an issue, install WP-Super-Cache. This will turn your site into a static one, eliminating almost all CPU usage.

    Please give me an suggestion...

    I've been in:

    dreamhost
    hostgator
    resellerzoom

Im getting tired of using my time to move hosts instead of blogging. :(

    my website has 5k pageviews/day

Hi, I have a similar problem, and I am also with Reseller Zoom. The difference is that I am still on 2.5. Ever since I upgrade to 2.5, I have been having a lot of Internal 500 Server errors. Checking the server log, it shows that WP is using between 16-20mb of memory and sometimes utilize over 15% of CPU. And this is usually when I am calling the wp-admin interface. So, RZ has also recommended that I upgrade to their VPS plan. I thought it's crazy that I have to use a VPS box to just run WP. Thinking of moving, can anyone recommend a good host with Cpanel 11 that can handle WP 2.5? Many thanks in advance.

I went with one of WP recommended hosts. HostICan. I've experienced high CPU usage twice already using their Tera-Host.

Im getting afraid now reading up on all these issues. I optimized my database but still haven't found a solution to this problem.

I never had these issues when running WP prior to 2.5

I'm having the same issues as well, my website sometimes either:

    • Doesn't load
    • Loads slow
    • Loads stuff incomplete
    • Sends error with database
    • Says that the page doesn't exist (within wordpress)

I updated from 2.6 to 2.6.2 hoping it would be fixed, but no. My ISP says that my website is taking too heavy load. I've also installed the Cache thing but doesn't seem to have a real effect.

Bumping. And this was originally reported 5 months ago... Would we have to wait until 2.7 for it to get fixed?!

Helloooooooo? Any help? The issue is getting really, really frustrating. Would changing webhosts (someone like HostGator?) would work? Or it wouldn't matter.

Im with dreamhost. And I get about 4k hits a day. Running WP 2.7 with maybe 4 plugins. and I keep getting error 500's and they are telling my site is at 99% resource usage.

I need a new host. What suggestions are there out there. Im temporarily moving to godaddy. but reading here on the forums it sounds i may have the same issues.
