• We want to move or blog to a new server. I did the database-backup with phpmyadmin but I cannot import the whole backup because it’s too big.

So I backup the tables. No problems, but with the category-table.

The table is shown right on the new server database, with all categories and sub-categories. But on the admin-side of the page there are only shown the main-categories and on the page itself all categories are shown where there only should be some:

Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Thanks,
    Rita

  • Do you still have access to WP on the old server? What I would have done, if you’re just changing servers, is to EXPORT your WP posts and settings to an *.xml file; stash it on your hard drive.

Then at your new server, set up a fresh install of WP, and once it’s up and running, IMPORT that *.xml file back into the new WP. I did that when I moved WP from a development server to the client’s site and the categories came through just fine.

Oh, and make sure you download your plugins and themes so you can upload them to the new site, but I bet you already took care of that. 🙂

Thank you jonimueller, I first tried exactly what you said, but we have a multi-user-blog. If I do the .xml-stuff, all posts will go to ONE author, and that’s not what we want.
