• Hello!

A couple of weeks ago all comments from my blog dissapeared. Now every single blog post appears to have 0 comments.
I tried posting a comment and I can proceed normally by writing it but when the comment is sent it does not appear anywhere, I cant even see comments in my dashboard.

I don’t know what to do. I’ve deactivated all my plugins, activated them again and nothing has happened. I also tried changing my theme and nothing has happened either. Please help me I don’t know what to do…

    Thanks in advance!

  • Try to track down where this issue is coming from by deactivating plugins one by one, and resetting your permalinks, and if it does not solve switch to the default theme, every time repeating what you wrote as test

I tried posting a comment and I can proceed normally by writing it but when the comment is sent it does not appear anywhere, I cant even see comments in my dashboard.

If this issue still remains with the default theme and no plugins activated could then be your WordPress installation got corrupted and you may need to restore it from a backup or with a fresh install. Always remember to make a backup before trying to restore or reinstall.

hope you solve it quickly, cheers!!

    Thank you!

I deactivated the plugins one by one, and reactivated them and so far nothing.
I tried posting a comment again and it gives me this error message:

    Error 404 – Not Found
    404 Not Found

I will try now switching to the default theme…

Does this error message mean something in particular?

    Thanks again!

    Hi,
404 means that what you search can not be found…and this could be a theme issue as well. Try to switch to one of the default themes.
Default themes are twentyeleven, twentytwelve or twentyfourteen as you like.

and did you reset your permalinks also, with your plugins disabled and default theme active?

    Hello again!

I changed to a default theme deactivated the plugins and when i try posting a comment i get this message:

This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.

I am kind of desperate here…

About the permalinks how do I reset them?

    thanks!

    For permalinks infos:

When you’ve resetted permalinks, try posting a test article, log out and then try submit a comment on that article.

I reseted the permalinks, posted an test article logged out commented and the same message appears:
This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?

What I did notice since last week but not because of this but since I changed the original theme I had to another one (not a default theme) is I can see the number of comments in previous posts before this problem happened. But when I click to view the comments I can’t see them.

    Anything left I can do?

    Thanks again

Can you post a link to your site?
    Also, you say that

I can see the number of comments in previous posts before this problem happened. But when I click to view the comments I can’t see them.

where can you see your comments to previous posts, only in dashboard?
did you check your discussions settings to see if comments are enabled?

I hope it’s something simple I am missing…otherwise I think you may need to install a fresh copy of wordpress to reset this issue.

Let me know, hope you solve this!

    this is my website http://trini-g.com/

I can see the number of comments in dashboard and in my website, in both cases when i click to see the comments I can’t see them.

Yes comments are enabled in settings, always have been, this is a sudden problem that started over a month ago.

How do I install a fresh copy of WordPress if I already have the latest version of it?

    Thanks for all your help!

    Hello again,
you have currently active Adelle theme, which is not one of the default.

Default themes are twentytwelve, twentythirteen or twentyfourteen as you like.
They are included with wordpress 3.8
    …anyway

[edit] – I see something related with “currentlyobsessed” which calls an older version of jquery which is probably what is causing the problem in your front-end ( I hope…!)

try removing your “SHOP MY STUFF!” widget and see if something changes…

I have the same problem on all of my websites that are updated to 3.8 – just discovered that all the comments are gone, and they are actually not even in the mySQL database, so it’s not just a front-end issue. I can not add new comments – they never show up, even though the comment field is available on the website. Every now and then I get a moderation email that contains no information about the comment:
    Author : (IP: , )
    E-mail :
    URL :
    Whois : http://whois.arin.net/rest/ip/
    Comment:

These blogs have a variety of themes and plugins – I think the only that they all share is Akismet. I host the websites on a Dreamhost VPS. I have talked to them about the problem, but they can’t help – their backups are not old enough to have the comments.

Very frustrating. Can’t see how an update could delete content from the database, so could this be an Akismet issue?

I now have activated the Adelle theme because I already did yesterday what you told me: I reseted my permalinks with my plugins disabled and default theme active (twenty twelve) I also posted a new entry, logged out tried commenting and nothing happened so I switched back to Adelle.

The Shop My Stuff widget has been in my site for months without any problems, I removed it as you said and nothing happened so I put it back again.

I don’t know what else to do 🙁

Can you explain about de jquery please? Sorry i don’t know what that is

    Hi trinig,
    well, really I don’t know then…. 🙁
jquery is a javascript library for making interactions and other stuff within a theme or a plugin, WordPress ships with its own copy,
What I’ve seen is that in you page there were two jquery libraries called, and one was version 1.7.1 (I think I remember that…) and was called from that widget you removed, “shop my stuff”.
So when there are two different versions of the same files this may lead to some conflicts. But I don’t know if this is your case.

What I would do is to make an export of posts and pages from within wordpress, make also a complete backup of database and files, then reinstall manually the latest wordpress version, and check if this problem is gone.
If it is, then reinstall latest version’s theme and plugins used before, one by one making a single test for each step.

I’m sorry I couldn’t help you right now, you can try to wait a little if someone had this same issue resolved and answers to this thread, otherwise try this last step that should fix it, but surely taking some more time and some effort to do it precisely without problems…

Good luck, hope you solve it!!! Feel free to ask more if you need, as far as I can suggest something useful I will do it..

    Wait, wait, wait….
COMMENTS RE-APPEARED, 404 seems to be gone, I’ve tried posting comments from different browsers (chrome, safari and firefox), and it redirects well now, accepts the comment, and I can see older comments too.

seems this thing is resolved, semms YOU resolved it…! 🙂

If it is like that, post back your solution for others may have the benefit of reading it.
    What was then?

    Thread Starter trinig

    (@trinig)

    YAY!!! Its solved!! 🙂
I asked a friend to take a look at it, and he told me he went to Myslq and clicked restore, and that seems to have solved it!

@parcodesuni Thank you so so much for all your help!!!
