Theme Upgrade With No Template Changes

    I’m using the Magazine Basic theme 2.7.9, and I want to upgrade to 3.0.4. I have made no custom changes to the templates. I just want to upgrade and save all my changes that I have made to the column widths, widget settings, etc. that I have made in the WP dashboard/control panel. I know the very basics of creating a child theme, and I also have the Orbisius Child theme creator. I’m using the current verson of WordPress (3.8).

    My question is: What files and/or code do I need to place in the child theme so my website isn’t messed up when I upgrade?
