Yes, that is what child theme mode is for.
Move it out of the plugins directory? or make a copy? and do I put it into a directory or just copy the whole Optionstree directory directly into the child theme?
Put the option tree directory in the child theme and set the child theme mode filter to true.
so do you leave the original optiontree plugin in the plugin directory? and activated or what? and just put a copy in the child directory? or move the whole thing over.?
Sorry for so many questions, but this is the first time I’ve tried creating a child theme.
You have three installation options.
1. Use it as a plugin (recommended)
2. Use it in Theme mode.
3. Use it in Child Theme mode.
You cannot run OptionTree in plugin AND theme mode simultaneously or the sky will fall on your head.
Basically, choose one way of using it and load it that way. Having an activated plugin and having it theme mode causes all kinds of problems.
If you want to use OptionTree in Theme or Child Theme mode you need to include the option-tree directory in the theme or child theme and add the proper filter to activate those modes. However, there is no benefit to using it that way other than forcing people who purchase your theme to use a specific version of OptionTree so you can control the upgrade path. However, a lot of theme developers do not explain that to their customers and it causes a bunch of support requests for me when I have to explain myself over and over again (which sucks).
If you don’t need to force your users into using a certain version of OptionTree use the plugin and be done with it. It’s just a much simpler and less confusing way to use OptionTree.

BTW, I’m not planning to sell my theme. just use it for my website to replace an unwieldy Joomla!
and I still don’t know how to use your plugin….. but will try.
