The new facebook stories all carry rather large stories now. Its lovely how wpbook works but as well as syncing comments id really like for the larger images to be used as the feature image.

Its rather hard to see wpbook posts with all of the new facebook posting styles. Can you tell me how to make sure it posts the largest feature image?

you can see the difference on my fanpage. http://facebook.com/foreverhairgirl

Not sure I know what you rmean by “all of the new Facebook posting styles.”

WPBook uses the Facebook defined API for posting – you can post as a link, or as a post, or as a note. (All are options in the settings in the plugin in WordPress).

Feel free to experiment with those options and let me know which is most effective.

WPBook takes the “featured image” you’ve assigned to the post, and sends the src for that image to Facebook.

You can look in your debug file to see what src WPBook sends – what Facebook does with it isn’t under the control of WPBook.

If you don’t provide an image (if your theme doesn’t support post thumbnails for example) then Facebook chooses an image it finds at the URL – if your theme provides the right og metadata it will pick the right image.

Jon, hey there. If you look at the fanpage you’ll see i have just manually posted the previous blog post.

there is a noticeable difference in the styling of the link posted and the image size is much larger. Whatever WPBook is passing much being helping facebook to decide how to display the image. Opengraph is working on the site and the featured image is selected.

There much be a default story mode versus the other newer versions of the “link” story. Could you look into that? I’d really like the option to use the much newer and more visible versions. The ability to sync comments is something i can’t let go of tho 😉

Right – when you “manually post” you use the “link” type – when you are posting in WPBook, do you have it set to post as a link, or as a post, or as a note? (You control this in the settings for WPBook inside WordPress admin).

If you post as a link you should get the same behavior as when you post as a link elsewhere.

Beyond that I’m not sure how else to change how Facebook displays the info WPBook passes in – I’m just using their existing API.

Hey John, i’m sure everything that you are saying is correct but is it possible you could check? Maybe Facebook added some options to link posting recently which your implementation doesn’t consider.

Also, yes, everything is being posted as a link by wpbook. Id just really like to take advantage of the new story display features. Reading the old view is actually a little harder to see now that the new linked stories are so much bigger. They’ve been around only a few months so i’m thinking some new variables may have been released that you were aware of. What do you think?

    Please please please 🙂

    No luck, sorry.

    See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15269818/facebook-api-post-to-feed-with-bigger-image

There’s nothing in the API that allows me to specify anything about format.
