Use add from server plugin without copying files, just linking them to the DB

As suggested by esmi in this post, I am opening my new thread for a support request.

I would like to keep my podcasting files in their own directory, which there is “podcasts”. But since they are too big to upload via WP’s media library and attach them to a post, I would like to link the files to the DB only instead of copying them to the /wp-content/uploads/-folder structure. That way, I could upload them to my own folder structure, include them in the media library an then attach them to a post.
