  • I’m getting internal server errors when trying to restore a backup just over a week ago. I’ve had to reinstall wordpress a number of times and everytime I install wp clone and do a restore from URL it says it’s successful then returns the 500 Internal Server error.

    Any thoughts on what is going on?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    PS, I’ve tried uploading my zip file to dropbox and then getting a link from that, and I get the same message 🙁

    I’m not quite sure why it’s showing that error,perhaps the host doesn’t allow external requests. have you tried the manual upload method?

    @steve
    was the a restore between sites or were you trying to restore a previous backup to the same site?

    For whatever reason, my theme that I had installed became corrupt during the backup, which in turn, kept giving me the internal server error 500. Stumbled upon the theme issue when trying to reload the backup manually.

    Luckily, after deleting the theme from the backup.zip file, I was able to restore the site fully and install a fresh copy of the theme.

    Food for thought if people are getting similar errors.

    Thanks for a great plugin btw!

    @wp Academy thanks for the tip, but I really this explained to me like I’m five. I don’t know how to use an ftp server. Are they free? Do I need to sign up for one?
