• I am looking for a way to embed widescreen video to my blog. I have a wordpress.COM blog (hosted by WP) and have purchased several upgrades. I am trying to make a video blog, but I shoot all my stuff in widescreen, and every way I’ve found to post to WP either adds letterbox or squeezes the video into a square window.
I have tried Vimeo, VodPod, etc. and all of these add black letterbox bars to my widescreen videos.
I have tried uploading a .mov file and WP scrunches it into an ugly little square window.
    Can anyone help?

  • Hi,

Do you shoot in true 16:9? As in your video naturally does not contain letter boxes? If the video itself is truly 16:9 and not 4:3 with letterbox then all you have to do is change the embed size of the video player. Like for Vimeo, all you have to do is make sure the player pixel width and height match that of your video and it will look right. If your video is too big (like 720p) just proportionally downsize to keep those letterboxes out.

    Hope this helps!

I am using the web-based wordpress, not the downloadable software, and it doesn’t offer a way to change the pixel ratio. Unless I am missing something? Any ideas would be a huge help…

PS Yes I am shooting native 16:9, so my original files are not letterboxed and do not playback on vimeo as letterbox. The letterbox just appears when I embed the video on wordpress.

    Hi,

What I would do is then use the Vimeo video embed and set the size of the embed screen to the exact proportional height of the video so you don’t see and bars. Vimeo allows you to customize their player so it shouldn’t be a problem.
