    OK - I run a blog/podcast called The Handyguys Podcast http://www.handyguyspodcast.com/

I have been using one category for all posts and multiple tags per post. This weeks episode begins a multi-week series on Basement Finishing.

Should I create a new category? How about just a consistent tag called "Basement Finishing Series" ?? Which is a more appropriate way to go?

    Thanks for your advice!

Categories still have more core functionality than tags, so I would stick with categories for main content organization and keep tags as add-ons.

well, that's a quick way to end up with a thousand categories.

if you're talking a finite series, then you want tags for sure - but if this will be an ongoing segment, then categories are more appropriate.

for instance, you might want categories like 'roofing' 'patio' 'kitchen' 'basement' assuming those have specific topics to go inside them... but for something as specific as 'dripping taps' you won't want a category for that, because there's only so much you can write on it.

... and you might find you have dripping taps within any of your other categories.

Ok - Two responses and two different opinions! I have the tag "Basement Finishing Series" and left it in my single category for now. This IS a finite series. It will likely be 4 or 5 posts long. So, tags it will be unless I get a compelling reason to change it. The first post on basement finishing goes live at 5PM ET today.

    Thanks
