   I'm new to blogging and was getting quite excited about using WordPress but I have got bogged down with this problem. I hope someone can help.

   No matter what I do I can't get my images to show on my blog. They seem to upload but don't display. I'm not sure whether it is because of my general inexperience with WordPress or because of this latest version. I've followed the forum discussions about image problems with the upgrade and taken all the suggested steps but still no success.
   The name of the image shows on my blog as a link, but not the image itself. When I click on the link I get the following error 403 message:

   You don't have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/2008/04/windowslivewriteraboutmeandthissite-e575david-2.jpg on this server.

   Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

   I'm getting very disheartened with WordPress, but don't really want to start all over again with another blogging program.

   Any suggestions, please.

   Sounds like a permissions problem to me. CHMOD the /uploads folder to 766. If you still get the error, CHMOD it to 777.

   Still seem to have the same problem, though, even after CHMOD to 777.

   Any other ideas, please?

   Are you usings Windows Live Writer to upload the images? Anyway, you should be able to go directly to your image's URL. If you can it is not a permission problem. If you can't then it is.

   Ok, you still have a permissions problem. Directory named uploads should be 755, 2008 should be 755. Your daily post 05 should be 777.

   Thank you, kmessinger (and again to jonimueller).

   I didn't know anything about permissions until you put me right. I'm much wiser now.

   As I still couldn't seem to sort it, I threw the problem at my hosting company, who sorted out the permissions and also tweaked .htaccess (something else I didn't know anything about!) All sorted within an hour! What a difference it makes when you know what you're doing.

   Anyway, problem solved. Thanks again.
