I just upgraded from 2.2.2 to 2.5.1 and am using the default theme. I can't get my blogroll/links list to appear in the sidebar. The Links item is there on the widgets page and I can add item on the Manage Links page. But nothing appears in the sidebar.

I'm not seeing a problem using the WordPress Default 1.6 theme and the Links widget.

Maybe remove the widget then Save Changes. Then add the Links widget again.

Thanks, but I'm afraid it didn't make a difference. (I had tried doing it before posting and again after getting your message). The problem appears in both the Default and the Classic themes.

Is it possible this is related to the *other* problem I'm having after the upgrade to 2.5.1: I lost my old categories and am not being allowed to create them again. Every time I try to add a new category, I get a pink error box saying: "could not insert term into the database." Thanks.

Hmm--hope you have a backup of your database from 2.2.2.

Does your database have the tables as described at Database Description? If it doesn't you might want to restore your database and redo the upgrade.php process.

My list of tables does NOT complete match the ones on the Database Description page. I have three tables that are not on that page (wp_categories, wp_link2cat and wp_post2cat) and there are three tables on that page I am missing: (wp_terms, wp_terms_relationships, wp_term_taxonomy).

Does this mean something went wrong during the upgrade?

Yes that's a sign that the upgrade failed.

Might want to try force a database upgrade
    or
drop your current tables, restore your 2.2.2 database, rebuild your database tables, then do the ugprade.php again.
