  • What is the difference between a mysql database backup and the .xml export file from the export sub-panel? Both of them holds posts, pages, comments, etc. I am wondering if I could use the .xml to backup my blog instead of using the database backup.

    up……………………………

It would depend on any customizations you have. As an example…export may not get some of the data saved from installed plugins.

Export may be good for a quick backup every couple of days but imho nothing can beat a total file and database backup at least once every couple weeks or so.

You could easily do both as the export is so easy. I would just keep a total backup handy just in case.

you mean if i customized the plugins… it will be saved in the sql file?

If you custimize the actual code then you would need to backup the code. Any extra settings and tables created by a plugin could be backed up by backing up the full database.
