• I am using the Twenty Ten template. I want to remove all features associated with blogging since my site is intended to be a static site. Is that possible? I know a little about HTML so I can follow instructions to remove sections of code from the pages.

  • I would think the easiest approach would be to use ‘pages’ for your static content, and just not use ‘posts’ at all. That way there’s nothing you should need to remove. Make sure comments are not enabled, and you have a static site.

Have a look at this Codex page which outlines the differences between pages and posts.

If you do decide to make changes to the theme, make sure to do it by creating a child theme and making your changes there.

I already have the site set up with a static Home page and other pages. However, I would like to remove the Login box and the label that says Archive on the right of each page. I set the Comments to 1, since it doesn’t allow 0 as a value.

Those elements (meta:login and archives) are found in admin > Appearance > Widgets, and can be removed from there. You may find other widgets more to your liking there as well.

Then under Pages > All Pages, you’ll find settings per page to turn off commenting for already published pages. You should also go to Settings > Discussion to turn off comments for any future pages or posts. Hope that helps.

I was able to get rid of the side bar so thanks for your help with that. However, I have one more issue. Out of all the pages I have (some Parent and some child) all but three have the box for creating blog entries displayed at the end or the page. Three, my home static page, a Parent page, and a child page under a different Parent don’t have that box. I have searched everywhere to try to find the difference between the three that don’t display that box and the ones that do, and cannot find the way to eliminate the box.

…all but three have the box for creating blog entries displayed at the end or the page.

I’m assuming by ‘blog entries’ you mean comment boxes. As I mentioned, the checkbox under Settings > Discussion will only disable comments on future pages. You must go to Pages > All Pages, and there disable comments on each problematic (published) page individually. If you point to a page title in your list of pages, a quick edit link will appear. Click that and you will find a checkbox to disable comments for that page.

Thanks, again! I never looked in Quick Edit. I assumed that Quick Edit would have less options that Edit.

Glad you got things worked out.
