[Plugin: SMS Text Message] Suggestions for Plugin

    I was testing the plugin today and realized that on my Sprint phone you can only receive about 160 Characters (including spaces) at a time. I sent about 300 Characters to test and see if it would send two texts to complete the message and it did not.

    This might just be sprint related but I do not know that for sure. Does anyone know if the character count includes the subject?

    If most phones are limited to say 160 Characters it would be a good idea to make the message box have a character count associated with it. That way the admin can control their content more and make sure their users are getting all of the data sent. Another option would be to somehow tell the script to only send x amount of characters at a time. For instance IF x > 160 (send first 160 characters), Then send the rest in another operation if not > than 160. You get the idea.

    Im pretty sure that all SMS messages have a limit, thats why they have the name “Short“

    In fact, my Treo actually ticks off the characters as I enter them, so that I know how many are left.

    Another suggestion would be to add Metro PCS. Who owns this provider, maybe they are private?

    and one more suggestion: It would be nice to be able to remove numbers if someone decides to be removed from the list.

    In the latest version of the plugin, the admin can now remove a number through the menu interface.
    As for the SMS limit, each carrier has a different limit. I may have the functionality in a future version to show how many characters have been entered, like whooami describes.
    Gable, I’ll be adding more providers as I’m able.
    I only have so much time to devote to the development of free software:)

    At the moment, having it tick off the number of characters entered as per whooami’s suggestion is all I can think of. If you have any idea to easily accommodate the various limits (monitoring which carriers are being sent to and their specific limits isn’t feasible, since some carriers allow a user to increase their character limit for a fee) please let me know and we can discuss it.
