• Hello,

I recently upgrades to version 3.8. Most everything is working well except for a few issues when I try to write new posts.

First, the “Add Media” button no longer works.

Second, the Insert/Edit Hyperlink and Remove Hyperlink button on the kitchen sink no longer work.

Third, I can no longer add tags. If I try to click on “choose from most used tags” nothing comes up. If I try to write in a tag, it does not enter it.

    My website is smarterlandlording.com

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen or Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).
    – If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue, try manually re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
BTW, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case.

    Tara,

Thanks for the response. Tried your first two. No luck.

The second two, not sure if I am that technical πŸ™‚

Any other recommendations? Are you aware of other users having this problem?

Adding this to the ongoing thread in order to prevent thread sprawl (but if the mods want to move it, fine):

    After the upgrade to 3.8…:

    • my media files no longer are visualised: they are there but I’m not seeing the thumbnail preview;
    • When I upload a new image and go to edit it does not display the full image but a square partial crop (however if I go to “View Attachment Page” I see the full image);
    • The pages that displays the available themes is wacky – the theme images are resized to double size and cropped in half…?
    • Thank you

      Paul

@paul Weber – yes, please start your own thread as per the link Tara posted above. We can’t move a post out of an existing thread.

Hi, I don’t know if someone help. I have similar anomalies as others. after upgrading to 3.8 none of the menu are listed under appearance/menus. The site still displays the active menus fine but, there is no way to see them on admin to edit them.

Also I am using woo-commerce, the product categories are in the db and function on the front end but when try to see them in the admin, you can see that pagination knows that there are some products in db but does not list any thing.

    I appreciate any help.

I’ve been having the same issues as Kevin. The hyperlink buttons and Add Media buttons no longer work. Also, I can’t edit my widgets at all. I’ve tried the fixes suggested with no luck. Has anyone else figured this out?

Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.3 updates in 2013 to run 3.7 properly were to be expected, its once in a blue moon.

HOWEVER, 3.8 has been a never ending nightmare. Plugins not updating, script time outs, failed install messages, over and over and over.

I can tell you with full confidence after doing this 8 times in a row on 5 different hosts (bluehost, host gator, network solutions, godaddy, and host for web)
=> go for the manual update. I think the WP team has botched something here for the first time in a decade. They are human after all.

Best advice I can give here: IGNORE ALL the crap like
    define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’); and updating php.ini settings like max_execution_time and memory_limit… blah blah…
    This is WordPress NOT Magento.

    1- back up file system
    2- back up database
3- do the manual update (sad but true)
I can assure you that after doing the long winded manual updates for all the plugins and the WP core that everything went well, I even went back and re-did the older installs. πŸ™‚

On a side note, make sure your host is running this or newer
    Apache version 2.2.23
    PHP version 5.3.21

If it helps, HostGator has an INI override and NetWork solutions still NOTWORK… lol
    – good luck

    Hi,
Password protecting my pages no longer works with 3.8 upgrade on a site with very few plugins activated. The only one that is activated is Akismet. The page simply says protected and does not provide field to enter in password and all content is visible.

    Suggestions?

My apologies, I have spent the better part of my day trying to troubleshoot this problem, which I have not particularly enjoyed either!

This is what helped us: http://wordpress.org/plugins/change-uploaded-file-permissions/#post-2390
The correct file permission for media items seems to be 644.
