Plugin to query database and display search results

Is there a WP plugin available that can be used with either basic SQL commands or possibly shortcodes to query a database and return/display results in a basic table/list format on a WP post?

For example, if a database contained listings for Mexican restaurants across the US, I’d like to be able to query the database and display a list of those restaurants in a new post specific to a given city, like Boston or Chicago and only display the restaurants in that given city.
