All I could understand was “create gallery” with uploaded photos.
How would that make “galleries” one of the choices on the left-hand
    side of the dashboard page?

I just don’t understand how to find galleries that are already
in the left0hand side of my page. I know how to create a gallery, but I don’t know where the years of galleries I’ve developed went to.

Default WP galleries are not stored as separate objects. The Create Gallery functionality merely creates a shortcode that is added to your Post or Page when you insert a gallery. Perhaps you need to look at using a dedicated gallery plugin?

Whenever I heard the words “plug in” I think, “I don’t even know what a plug in is, much less where to find it, and to put a check in the box or leave it open.” It used to say “galleries” on the left-hand side of my page, and suddenly that word has vanished. 🙂 (By the way, I appreciate your help!)
