• I have Better WP Security installed in all of my wordpress websites 25+ due to its reputation as a top security tool and good feedback.

Recently 2 of my websites slowly started getting lots of blank file change warnings emails. It was only about 50 emails to start with and it lasted about half an hour or so. I then realised that my website was running really slow when this was happening and I could not login to my website admin during this time.

I ignored it at first because it didnt last long, but the number gradually went up over time and then I was receiving 200-500+ file change warning emails and my website was affected for hours. My website or dedicated server just couldnt cope and it slowed down all websites in the same space.

There is nothing being changed or hacked, just a couple of simple timthumb scripts caching, but the file change warning email happens every day and has serious affects on the website and the server.

I had to remove the plugin from the FTP just to get everything working again when angry clients were phoning up.

It is such a shame as its just a great plugin, but this file change issue is causing me lots of problems. I have seen other similar posts and it seems quite a few of you have been affected by it.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can stop this as I would prefer to use BWPS as it is a great tool otherwise.

Thanks in advance for your help
    Billy

  • the number gradually went up over time and then I was receiving 200-500+ file change warning emails and my website was affected for hours.

I hope it was due requests from iThemes image path for case-sensitive
The issue was resolved in 3.6.1 version and a new version 3.6.2 also released today works fine now.
If you are facing server slow down then
1 Download error logs from view logs from BWS plugin dashboard
2 delete these logs in plugin dash board and
3 clean database tables tablename_bwps_logs and tablename_bwps_lockouts [note: tablename refers your database table name] from phpMyAdmin
Note: Disable cache plugins while doing all this stuff. After the above 3 steps over, clear cache (if any left). Now test the speed of your site then enable Cache plugin.
