I get customers reporting zero-byte files when downloading their purchases. I checked and in fact I download a file of zero size with the correct filename.

Anybody having this issue? It may be a plugin conflict, I’m going to do a plugin check.

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

I need some time to realign the test server to production and reproduce the problem step by step. Will keep you updated.

As there has not been an update to this topic for a while, I can only assume that the issue has now been resolved and I am now marking it as such. If this is incorrect, please feel free to change the topic’s status and/or post a follow-up.

Sorry for the long delay, as it took time to sort things out.

I have traced back the issue to a problem of Eshop when NextGen Gallery plugin is activated.

    Twentythirteen with only eshop: correct downloads;
Twentythirteen with eshop and nextgen: 0 byte downloads.

I tried several combinations of Twenty13, pagelines theme, 3rd party plugins and I can always reproduce the issue activating NextGen.

Affected nextGen version: 2.0.40 and 2.0.27
    eshop 6.3.11
    wordpress 2.7.1

Have you tried asking the NextGen plugin developers about this?

I just sorted the thing and am thinking. In fact, NextGen works well side to side with eShop, so the malfunction seems to fall on the eShop side. Not blaming faults at anyone, mind you.

The NextGen settings apparently have no configuration option that interferes with content transfer or authentication.

Eshop as well does not have obvious troublesome config options.

This has happened about November 2013, end of November perhaps.

The NextGen changelog has dates added, so I know that
    V2.0.23 – 09.16.2013

and I started noticing the problem only in November.

Do we have dates fot the eshop changelog?

eShop has not been changed since August or earlier. And we’ve only been carrying out minor bug fixes for the past 12 months or so to stabilise the core plugin.

    Good to know.

Let me know how you get on with the NextGen folks. One of their main support people is a colleague of mine so we can always swap notes if necessary.

I disabled NextGen for the time being. In the long term I will disable eShop and replace it with another ecommerce plugin.

    Fair enough 🙂
