So I’m new to WordPress, and finally my site is designed. I go to edit the text on my pages (I had done nothing but copy and paste copy from a word document) and there’s really not much I can do.

Where the text editor should be consists merely of:
B I strikethrough bullets number bullets quotes L C R aligned and that’s it. I can’t do anything with spacing, font, color, size… nothing.

Is this normal, or is mine missing? The video I saw from a few years back on Youtube had an entire editor available… or is this a plugin I need to find?

I’m using the theme DUENA, but don’t think it’s a theme-problem. I activated two other themes just to see and they have only the minimum editing capabilities as well. This holds true for both editing text in Pages and Posts.

    All advice is appreciated!

  • First, avoid pasting from Word – it has all kinds of formatting that is not compatible with websites (not just WP) – and it can cause major problems.

See if a plugin like this one will provide more visual editing for you:

You are a LIFE-SAVER! Seriously, I may love you (in a totally non-creepy way of course). I spent so much time digging through forums and on Youtube and Google trying to figure it out.

The editor you sent me worked, woohoo!

As for the copy and paste from Word, should I delete it all and insert it in another way?

Having a website is a whole new endeavor so I’m sure I’ll be making a ton of mistakes along the way.

    Of course :)!

If you want to copy text into the editor, try using a plain text editor to remove Word’s formatting – web code is totally different. Or just type in the editor.

Once you get adjusted to using WP, you’ll be fine with it.

Awesome, thanks so much! Once I figure out how to get rid of headlines for pages showing… I think I’ll be in a pretty good place. You wouldn’t happen to be able to read stylesheet code would you? I think it’s a theme issue now, so that sucks.

    Anyway!

    Thanks again!
