   I've seen some plugins that requests comment author validation by emailing to the comment author. But I can't find the link to the plugin nor, can't find plugins that works on 2.3.x up to 2.5.

   Anybody know such plugin(s)?

   That's simply called "registering to be able to comment" (se your wone admin panel!) - and it is the dumbest thing you can set up... unless you don't want people to comment on your blog.
   No, it does NOT prevent spam but it prevents nice visitors from commenting.

   There were some plugins... but I can't find it anymore.

   Note that the plugin was written in 2004; I haven't tested it, but I'm going to do so.
