Complex syle guide?

Hello, was just trying to use –

[column class=”column1″]content[/column]
[column class=”column2″]content[/column]
[end_columns]

.column1 {
width: 45%;
}
.column2 {
width: 45%;
margin-left: 10px;
padding-left: 10px;
}

But my style guide is very complex (artisteer design) can just cant get it to work. Any ideas would be great if possible thx
