"Click here to enter information" sends me to an empty shopping cart

Cart seems to work well for a small shop, but my problem stems from the need to use the “Collect Customer’s Instruction?” field to accept flavors the customer wants to order for the item in the cart.

If the user does not fill in this field or doesn’t hit update before clicking “Proceed to Secure Checkout”, they get the Checkout page with a link to “Click here to enter information” under each item. Clicking on that link goes to an empty Cart page.

I plan on adding a form validation check on those fields before they click “Proceed…”, but it would be nice to have this link on the Checkout page work as well.

Any ideas? Not really any other plugins running that should interfere.
