Some time ago I wanted to set up a WordPress weblog. I noticed an advert for Bluehost that said they had a gadget that would install it for me - if only I bought some space on their servers.
That sounded good, and so I took them up on their offer. In fact, the deal was that WP would be installed using Fantastico. Well, that was ok although someone - either Fantastico or Bluehost, I never knew which - was rather slow in making WP updates available.
But now it's all gone horribly wrong. Bluehost has decided to abandon Fantastico, and has issued warnings that using their replacement or installing WP2.5 manually will destroy Fantastico-installed weblogs. Now, my weblogs represent a lot of hard work - to give you an idea, one of which is coming up to 500 posts.
Bluehost seems to have abandoned its Fantastico users: for a few days the site said there would be detailed instructions on how to migrate to its SimpleScripts or to manual installs, but they haven't materialised.
I've backed up my wpcontent folder for my main weblog and I'm about to export my SQL file for it. Next, I guess, I should back up the same files for my other weblog. But can anyone tell me please what I should do next, and how I can be sure I've got what I need to get my content back on line? And then how do I do that? To be honest, I'm both baffled and a little frightened about this one. And, yes, I know I should have installed manually in the first place, but there was this company advertising on the WP site that was offering to make it so easy...
If anyone can offer advice please, I would be most grateful!
Gavin
