register_http_request_failed (Jetpack)

Hiya,
I just tried to add Jetpack to a client site and got this message:

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. SSL read: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0), errno 0

Is this an issue I need to take up with my client’s web host?

Has anyone else experienced this issue.
