Permalinks / Custom Post Type

    Hi,

    I am using a custom post type and every time I try to access a normal page I am just getting the archive page.

    I have disabled all plugins, changed theme to default and even re-installed wordpress. If I delete the htaccess file and disable my custom post type the standard pages work. If I disable permalinks everything is working fine with the standard p?= structure.

    What is baffling me is the same custom post code I am using works fine on another site. I am starting to think It could be a setting on media temple. My other site with the same code is on media temple but a different vps.

    Any ideas?

    Try: Visit your Permalink Settings from the settings menu and save the page again – that is, re-save your permalinks settings.

    Hi,

    done it a dozen times.. nothing works.

    The structure I am trying to use is

    custom post:
    /movie/movie-name/
    /movie/genre/genre-name/
    /movie/topic/topic-name/

    then standard pages are
    /%postname%/

    Are both sites except for content identical (WP versions, plugins/versions, themes/versions)?

    Can you copy that site that works as desired onto the other server to test if it is a server related issue(s) (does exact same site where the permalink settings work work on both servers?) ?? Have you looked at both .htaccess files? What is different?

    The themes are custom. I moved the new site onto the other server to see if it was server related, but it’s still doing the same thing. The problem site does not have any plugins. I have tried the default themes and it makes no difference.

    I am starting to think the structure I quoted earlier might not be possible without a plugin.

    Try to rename your cpt file’s to single-your_custom_post.php. example, if your cpt name is movie, it’s should be like “single-movie.php” and resave your pemalink
