We are trying to bulk rename a whole load of image files stored in the media library. We have followed instructions but are a little confused still – is there a way for the plug-in to give each file a unique name (maybe be adding a suffix) automatically as despite highlighting a number of files and typing the name we need into the first filename field it only renames the first one and not those subsequently highlighted, saying that “A file with that name already exists in the containing folder”.

Are we misunderstanding how the plug-in works? Is there a way to automate the bulk rename so that we only need to enter the filename on the first image out of those selected, rather than having to give each one a unique filename manually?

    Many thanks!

This is a normal behavior. The plugin renames only the medias which are checked and for which a new name is given explicitly.

ahh ok, so its not possible to bulk rename?, the names have to all be individually typed into each filename box.
I thought I would be able to highlight all files, and rename in one action, typing one name into the first box

Yes, it is not possible. Bulk rename means that you can rename many medias from a single page.
