    Hello all,

I'm new to wordpress and am just installing it on our site. When I get to stage 2, I get the error message above. The MySQL version our web host provides is V4, so I don't understand....

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Significantly, if I enter incorrect DB login details:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

..so, it would point then *not* to DB login. Since my server is running MYSQL 5+ I dont know what the problem is...

Are you sure your running MySQL 4 or later. The client api version is the php client version not the version of the database server itself. If you have access to phpmyadmin or some other database management software then you can find the actual version of the database.

Well spotted. I'm running Server version: 3.23.58, so hopefully that's the problem.

    Thank you
