I have found a workaround if anyone else is having the same problem:
- Create a new page and leave the title and content blank.
- Set this to be the static home page in the settings
- Install the JetPack plugin if you haven’t already and enable the ‘Widget Visibility’ option from the plugin settings page
- Edit each widget and click the ‘visibility’ button next to save
- Set each widget to be hidden if page = front page
Thanks jkaa – I followed your suggestions but didn’t have the same joy. It did rid the home page of the unwanted widgets (though seemed to mess with the menu somewhat).
However, it still didn’t get my sidebar widgets working on other pages. I had it all looking sweet earlier, then noticed the upgrade to the theme, and since then it’s not showing the sidebar widgets properly (unless I enable them on the home page too).
Surely this is a bug or oversight? Or maybe I am being stupid? (it has been known)
A follow-up (although as it’s marked ‘resolved’ I wonder if anyone will read!)…
I tried again the work-around suggested above. The menu foul-up was me forgetting that I’d set new main pages to be added to the menu, so that sorted that.
All is fine but for some reason my homepage still wants to show the ‘meta’ plugin. I may be able to css it out of existence…
Are we having fun?

Ah yes – I remember this problem now. From memory I added a text widget to First Sidebar but kept the title and content blank again.
Hope this helps!
Jon
Thanks Jon, your memory is working fine! It worked.
